Buyer's guide — paying for your piece
How to use Afterpay or Zip Money to buy your human hair wig or topper
Quality human hair is an investment, and payment flexibility can make the process easier. Goldylost offers two payment plan options — Afterpay and Zip Money — for our Australian customers. This guide explains how each works, which one suits which situation, and what's coming for our customers elsewhere.

Hair shopping should be a happy thing. Picturing yourself in a color you've always wanted, or simply imagining a morning that doesn't begin with worrying about your hair — that's the part I love about this work. But quality human hair is not a small purchase, and I'd be the last person to pretend otherwise. Many of our Australian clients tell us they've been quietly saving for months, only to watch the piece they loved sell out before they were ready. Afterpay and Zip Money are the two payment plan options we offer to help you close that gap. Here is exactly how each one works, in plain language, so you can choose the right one for your situation.
Both Afterpay and Zip Money through Goldylost are currently available only to Australian customers, with payments processed in Australian dollars. We hope to extend payment plan options to our US customers in the future. If you're shopping from the United States or elsewhere and would like to discuss other arrangements, please write to us at contact@goldylost.com — we'd love to hear from you.
Why quality human hair costs what it costs
Before we get into the payment plans, I want to be honest about the price tag. A Goldylost wig or topper is made from the very best Brazilian or European Remy human hair, which is collected, washed, sorted, and matched by hand. Each piece is then constructed on a hand-tied or silk-top base, color-finished by experienced wig colorists, and quality-checked before it leaves us. There are roughly thirty pairs of hands on every piece by the time it reaches you.
That craftsmanship is the reason our pieces last for years rather than months — and it is also the reason a Goldylost wig is not a forty-dollar purchase. We've never tried to be the cheapest. We have always tried to be the piece you genuinely love, the very first time.
Afterpay vs Zip Money — a quick comparison
Both Afterpay and Zip Money let you take your Goldylost piece home today and pay for it over time, but they work in noticeably different ways. The short version below; full detail in the sections that follow.
Afterpay vs Zip Money
| Afterpay | Zip Money | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | 4 fortnightly payments | Flexible repayment over months |
| Total timeframe | 6 weeks | Months, depending on the plan you choose |
| Interest | Always interest-free | Interest-free promotional period; check current terms |
| Approval | Quick check at checkout | Full account application required |
| Best for | Smaller carts, faster repayment | Larger purchases, more breathing room |
| Country | Australia only at Goldylost | Australia only at Goldylost |
What Afterpay actually is
Afterpay is a payment service that lets you split a single purchase into four equal payments, made every two weeks, with zero interest. You pay the first installment at checkout, and the remaining three are taken automatically from the card you've registered, on the same day every fortnight. There are no application fees and no interest charges of any kind, provided each payment is made on time.
In plain terms: if you choose a piece for AUD $2,800, you pay AUD $700 today and three more AUD $700 payments over the following six weeks. Your wig or topper enters our normal production and shipping queue immediately after that first payment — you do not wait for the plan to be paid off before the piece ships.
What Zip Money actually is
Zip Money is a longer-form payment plan service that, like Afterpay, lets you take your purchase home today and pay for it over time. The differences are in the structure. Zip Money is designed for larger purchases and gives you more breathing room on the repayment timeline — typically over several months, with flexible monthly repayments rather than four fixed fortnightly ones. Zip Money offers an interest-free promotional period on most purchases when minimum monthly repayments are met; standard interest applies after that period. The exact terms (the length of the promotional period, the minimum monthly amount, and any fees) can change, so we recommend checking the current terms directly on Zip Money's own page before you commit.
Approval for Zip Money is more involved than Afterpay — it's a full credit account, not a quick spending check, and the application includes identity verification and a credit assessment. Once approved, your Zip Money account stays active and can be used at Goldylost (and many other retailers) again in the future without re-applying.
Which one should you choose?
The honest answer comes down to two questions: how large is your cart, and over how long would you genuinely like to spread the cost?
Choose Afterpay if you'd like to wrap up the payment quickly (six weeks, end to end), if you don't want to think about interest or terms beyond a fortnightly schedule, and if your cart total is comfortable for four equal installments. Most of our smaller toppers and standard-length wigs sit in this sweet spot.
Choose Zip Money if your cart is at the higher end of our range, if you'd rather break the cost into smaller monthly payments over several months, or if you'd like an account that you can reuse for future purchases (Zip Money becomes a credit account, Afterpay does not).
If you're not sure, the simplest test is to look at the cart total and ask yourself: "Would I be comfortable paying a quarter of this in two weeks?" If yes — Afterpay. If you'd prefer the cost spread further than that — Zip Money.
“Hair confidence shouldn't have to wait for the right month of the year. For our Australian customers, we offer two ways to make the timing kinder.”— Clementine, Goldylost
How Afterpay works at Goldylost, step by step
Step 1: Choose your piece. Browse our wigs and toppers, find the one you love, and add it to your cart in the usual way.
Step 2: Choose Afterpay at checkout. When you reach the payment screen, select Afterpay as your payment method. (If you're shopping from outside Australia, this option will not appear.)
Step 3: Sign in or sign up. If you already have an Afterpay account, log in. If not, create one on the spot — the application is quick, and approval is given instantly.
Step 4: Pay the first 25%. Once approved, you'll pay one quarter of the total using the card you've registered with Afterpay.
Step 5: Your order moves into production. Your wig or topper enters our normal production and shipping queue, exactly the same as if you had paid in full.
Step 6: Three more payments. Afterpay takes the remaining three payments automatically, every two weeks, from the card you registered. You'll receive a reminder a day or two before each one.
How Zip Money works at Goldylost, step by step
Step 1: Choose your piece. Same as Afterpay — browse, find, add to cart.
Step 2: Choose Zip Money at checkout. Select Zip Money as your payment method. (If you're shopping from outside Australia, this option will not appear.)
Step 3: Sign in or apply. If you already have a Zip Money account, log in. If not, you'll complete a credit application — this is more involved than Afterpay's quick check, and includes identity verification.
Step 4: Confirm your repayment plan. Once approved, you'll be shown the repayment options available to you, the length of the interest-free period, and the minimum monthly payment. Read these carefully before confirming.
Step 5: Your order moves into production. Your wig or topper enters our normal production and shipping queue. The piece doesn't wait for the plan to be paid off.
Step 6: Monthly payments. Zip Money takes the agreed minimum monthly payment from the account you've set up, on the schedule you've chosen. You can also pay more than the minimum at any time without penalty, which can shorten the overall timeline.
A few honest notes before you use either
I'd be doing you a disservice if I only painted the rosy side. Both Afterpay and Zip Money are wonderful tools, but they are still financial commitments — please treat them as such.
The payments will come, ready or not. For Afterpay, make sure the card has the funds on the right dates. For Zip Money, make sure your minimum monthly payment is covered, every month, until the balance is cleared. Late fees apply if a payment fails to clear with either provider.
Approval isn't guaranteed. Both providers do their own assessment. Afterpay considers your spending history; Zip Money runs a more involved credit check. If a piece is at the higher end of our range, you may be approved for one but not the other — or be approved for a smaller amount than the cart total. If that happens, you can either part-pay with another method or choose a piece within the approved amount.
Read the current terms. Both providers update their fees, interest-free periods, and approval criteria from time to time. The numbers and structures we describe here are accurate at the time of writing, but please always check the current terms on Afterpay's or Zip Money's own page before you commit.
Spreading the cost doesn't make it cheaper. Both options change the timing, not the total. Make sure the underlying amount is one you'd be comfortable spending in full.
Why payment plans are currently Australia-only at Goldylost
Both Afterpay and Zip Money operate primarily in Australia, with Afterpay also active in some international markets. The reason both are currently limited to our Australian customers comes down to how the Goldylost website and merchant agreements are set up — we ship and bill internationally, but our payment plan integrations are currently configured for the AU storefront.
Bringing a payment plan to our US customers is genuinely on our roadmap. The structural work to enable it across two currencies and two legal entities takes time, and we'd rather do it properly than promise it before it's ready. If you're a US customer reading this and you've been waiting for a payment plan, please write to us at contact@goldylost.com. We'd love to know that you're interested — it helps us prioritize.
For our US customers — what to expect
If you're shopping from the United States and neither Afterpay nor Zip Money is available to you yet, we hear you. A few things in the meantime.
Standard payment methods work as normal. Credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are all available at checkout for our US clients, with the same shipping and customer service.
Custom payment arrangements. For US customers genuinely struggling with the timing of a purchase, write to us at contact@goldylost.com before placing the order. We're a small atelier and we can sometimes work out a direct arrangement that works for both of us.
Stay in touch. When we're ready to bring a payment plan to the US, we'll announce it clearly on our website, in our newsletter, and across our social channels. Sign up for the newsletter to be among the first to know.
Frequently asked questions
Are Afterpay and Zip Money available for US customers at Goldylost? Not yet. Both are currently available only for our Australian customers. We're working on bringing payment plan options to our US clients in the future.
Which is better, Afterpay or Zip Money? Neither is "better" — they're built for different sized purchases and different repayment preferences. Afterpay is faster and simpler (six weeks, four fixed payments, always interest-free). Zip Money is longer and more flexible (months, monthly payments, interest-free promotional period). Choose based on the size of your cart and how long you'd like to spread the cost.
Is Afterpay really interest-free? Yes — provided every payment is made on time. The only charges that apply are late fees, and only if a scheduled payment fails.
Is Zip Money interest-free? There's an interest-free promotional period on most purchases when minimum monthly repayments are met. Standard interest applies after that period. Check Zip Money's current terms for the exact promotional length and any fees.
When will my piece be shipped if I use a payment plan? With either option, your order enters our normal production and shipping queue as soon as your initial payment clears. The timeline is the same as a customer paying in full.
Can I pay either off early? Yes, with both. Log into your Afterpay or Zip Money account and clear the remaining balance any time. Neither provider charges an early-payment penalty.
What if I need to return the piece? Returns work the same as a full-price purchase. Once we've processed the return, the provider adjusts the remaining payments accordingly or refunds payments already made.
Will using these affect my credit report? Afterpay generally does not report to the major credit bureaus for routine purchases. Zip Money is a credit account and may be reflected on your credit file. Check directly with each provider for current policies.
Can I use a payment plan on a pre-order? Yes, with both. Pre-orders work the same way as in-stock purchases — the initial payment is taken at checkout, and your name is attached to the next piece coming off the production line.
I'm a US customer. What payment options do I have right now? Standard credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are all available at checkout. For genuine timing challenges, write to us at contact@goldylost.com before placing the order — we may be able to arrange something directly.
Can I use both Afterpay and Zip Money on the same order? No — you choose one payment method at checkout. If you'd like to combine, the practical workaround is to pay part with another method and the rest with Afterpay or Zip Money for the qualifying balance.
A closing word
I built Goldylost so that women going through hair loss could find a piece they truly loved, without spending a decade and a fortune to get there. For our Australian clients, Afterpay and Zip Money simply make that piece easier to take home today — without compromising on quality or settling for something you'll regret.
To our US clients reading this and feeling the wait: we hear you, and bringing a payment plan to your side of the world is genuinely on our list. Until then, please write to us if the timing of a purchase is the only thing standing between you and a piece you've fallen for. We're a small atelier and we'll do what we can.
Whenever you're ready, send us a note at contact@goldylost.com, reach us via our Facebook page, write through our contact form, or book a consultation. We're always on the other end of it.
